Joyful Noise II

by vernsanders on December 20, 2011

For those that read my last post, no, there isn’t a sequel already to a movie that hasn’t been released yet. My trip to New York City for the preview screening of the yet-to-be-released movie Joyful Noise was interesting. My schedule didn’t permit me a chance to interview either Dolly Parton or Queen Latifah, which was a bit disappointing, but I did catch a glimpse of the young male lead in a hallway. On the plus side…all the events were after noon, so, unlike most trips to the east coast, I was able to stay on Pacific time for meals and sleep, which meant much less wear and tear on the body than might have been expected for such a quick turnaround.

I was not there to “officially” review the movie, but I will give you  a heads up. I think that any church musician who is not an “old music only” person, should see the movie for the music, which, at times, borders on the spectacular (and I’m not talking about the “glee for church choirs” production numbers). Mervyn Warren, one of the original members of Take 6, is responsible for the music in the movie and, for the most part (unless the plot line demands otherwise) it is hot! When I talked to some of the “professional” reviewers afterwards, there was complete agreement on that. The movie opens January 13 in wide release. Look for it.
