Absolutely right, I do agree with your post. By the way I am a member of Baptist Church at Sacramento. Our church use church calendar software designed by Congregation Builder, It is really good software to use. It gives us Camp Management, Church Web Calendar & Event Registration.

I’m listening! Oh and I pray constantly that the hymns and songs we sing each week are not the tunes I like the most… and sometimes, God just smacks me upside the head in the middle of the service and says “What were you *thinking* choosing *that* one????? Sing this one instead. So I change the song in response to the Word. Most people just smile and shake their heads and say “That’s Janice.” But some say Thank You – the new song you chose really spoke to me (moved me, responded to the moment). And once, I did have someone say “I was so looking forward to singing XYZ and then you changed it, which was ok, but when are we going to sing XYZ?”

As always, Vern. you get me thinking.

My thoughts, exactly….especially about allowing yourself to go deep, emotionally, within the bounds of good music-making. Once the notes are in place, for each musician, the “group” can allow the music to be the messenger, and receive the message along with the congregation.

I have found that the choir maintaining the focus is often a factor of my own energy level. It is my experience that how I approach a rehearsal often determines how it goes (not always, though…there is that “what is going on here?” rehearsal that pops up sometimes…)
