Sleepless on the way to Seattle

by vernsanders on November 6, 2012

Not really…but I am driving up there starting tomorrow, and I hope to remain sleepless…at least while I’m behind the wheel…

So I’m in the day of preparation, which is generally frantic. This time, though, I don’t feel all that much stress…either about the trip itself, or the 4 separate presentations I make over 2 days at the end of this week. (It’s actually 6 talks, with 2 being repeated, but I doubt that you’re counting…)

By the time I leave tomorrow, we’ll at least have some idea of what direction the country’s going over the next 4 years. For what it is worth, though, I sense more hope amongst those that we serve at Creator. We’re seeing many more unexpected renewals from churches who let their subscriptions lapse at the beginning of the “great recession.” We’re seeing a great many more orders from individual church musicians and worship leaders. I’m getting many more emails about the “nuts and bolts” of ministry and fewer “I just got unexpectedly laid off” emails.

I can’t speak for the whole country, but I think that, given the fact that churches are usually the first entities to feel an economic downturn and the last to recover, hope is once again alive…financially speaking if nothing else. I will be interested to see if the folks attending my sessions at the Christian Musician Summit feel that hope too.

Please leave a comment and let me know if your hope quotient has risen lately.
