Longevity

by vernsanders on July 6, 2012

Yesterday I was part of a celebration of my mother-in-law’s 90th birthday. While it is clear that she’s slowing down, from other outward appearances, not much has changed since the day I first met her nearly 25 years ago.

But things have certainly changed around her during that time…

If I was in the advice giving business (wait a minute…in some sense I am… sigh…) I would say enjoy life, because it goes by quickly, and, statistically speaking, you may not get four score and ten to play with. And… enjoy the people you meet along the way, because I know, since my father died at 93, the older you get, the fewer of your “old” friends are around as part of your life. And, finally, tell your story…especially if you can do so in a mentoring way. It is impossible to tell everyone all the things you know, especially if they don’t ask the right questions. Write it down, and help them ask the right questions. It will help them avoid making the mistakes you have.

Got any other “words of wisdom”? Please leave a comment and let me know what you know.
