Site Update

by vernsanders on April 30, 2010

Following the lead of Chris Guillebeau, I’m doing a regular month-end wrap up on the post that comes the closest to the end of the month. (By the way, I highly recommend Chris’ stuff to you, and watch this space for a chance to learn from him how to build an empire [it's a good thing]).

Writing

Lots of variety this month…everything from a link for baseball fans to be able to partake of my SF Giants season ticket seats, to a series on the book The Blue Sweater (leadership and entrepreneurship) to why Singing is Good For You (with video!).

I’m still working on my next EBook, which delves into the subject of using social media to develop community for and in ministries. I’ll let you know when it will be available.

MeetUps

My first tweetup, as part of MusiCalifornia, was just cool. The six of us got together for good food, and great conversation. I’m looking forward to doing it again. Stay tuned…

Speaking

My EBook, The Choir in Modern Worship, has been the topic of presentations at MusiCalifornia and the National Church Music Conference this month. It was great to be able to teach these concepts, which Craig Curry, in his review of the book, says:

“[offer] many practical choral rehearsal techniques. Improving intonation, adjusting tone production, finding the “right” tempo, and teaching syncopated rhythms, among other topics benefit from his expertise. It’s clear that Sanders has used these techniques successfully with his own choirs.”

Curry also says:

“Directors of established church choirs looking to ensure their choir’s continued success in the modern worship era will find this e-book a very helpful resource. I also see this as a great primer for someone who may be just starting out as a choir director.”

Thanks for the kind words, Craig. It was also gratifying to present a session entitled “The Traditional Choir Director Meets the Worship Band for the First Time” at NCMC, and to give a bit of a preview of my next book at MusiCal, in a session entitled “Facebook is the New Guitar.”

Websites

We’re making progress on the update and upgrade of the Creator magazine site. Please be patient. We’re almost finished with the Creator Leadership Network article database, and we will be adding podcasts there very soon. We also expect our new 24/7 streaming audio channel to launch sometime in May, which will supplement the offerings currently found on Creator Reverence. Watch this space for details.

What’s Ahead

In May, I’ll be speaking on The Choir in Modern Worship at the Association of Canadian Choral Communities Podium 2010 conference. I’m looking forward to re-connecting with many of my Canadian friends from when I lived there while teaching at the University of Regina, Saskatchewan. Canadians, if you didn’t figure it out by watching the latest Olympics, know how to have fun, and I can’t wait to get there.

Thanks

Thanks for following along. I’m glad you’re here. I hope you feel the same about me.
